A Truely Joyous Celebration

Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne declares April 13, 2013 as "Khalsa Day"...

 
 
North Texas Sikh community celebrated the inauguration of Gurdwara Niskam Seva, Irving and the 314th anniversary of the founding of Khalsa on April 13, 2013.
  
 
 
It was a unique event attended my representatives of all major religious traditions who offered blessings for the new Gurdwara (Sikh Temple).
 
The Governor of Texas, Rick Perry and the Mayor of Irving, Beth Van Duyne, issued proclamations to recognize the inauguration and the city's police chief Larry Boyd and Acting Mayor Gerald Farris attended and spoke at the celebrations in the new Gurdwara.
 
 
The celebrations started with raising of the Nishan Sahib (Sikh Flag), followed by Shabad Kirtan (Hymn singing), Interfaith blessings and address to the congregation by the Police Chief and the Mayor Pro Tem. The colorful Nagar Kirtan (16th annual Khalsa parade) then followed led by the Panj Piaras (five beloved ones).
